COERR Mae Hong Son, Mae Sarieng, Mae Sot and Kanchanaburi Field Offices organized Intensive Training Course to prepare interested displaced persons in all 9 temporary border shelters in an effort to enable them to acquire knowledge and develop skills in agriculture so that they can help their families in food produces as well as to generate income for daily living. It is also an ideal to help them to see the possibility of future livelihood after repatriation.
COERR Mae Hong Son organized the training during November 4th – 8th, in Ban Mai Nai Soi for 13 trainees, and in Ban Mae Surin during November 20th – 24th For 5 trainees.
COERR Mae Sarieng organized the training during October 21st -25th, for 10 pilot trainees, 5 from Mae La Oon and 5 from Mae Lama Luang.
COERR Mae Sot organized the training in all 3 shelters in Tak Province. A training was organized in Mae La, Tha Song Yang District during September 21st – 25th, for 15 trainees. Other two training were organized at Umpiem in Phop Phra District, and Nupo in Umphang District, on November 11th – 15th, for 15 trainees, and 18 trainees, respectively.
COERR Kanchanaburi organized a training at Ban Tham Hin in Ratchaburi Province’s Suan Pueng District during October 28th -November 1st, for 23 participants and another training at Ban Don Yang, Kanchanaburi Province’s Sangkhlaburi District, during November 4th – 8th, in which 22 displaced persons participated.
The courses comprised the theory of Organic Farming as alternative livelihood for sustainability; Ecosystem; Plant Nutrient Management and Analysis; Organic Pest Control; Organic Animal Husbandry and Household Accounting.
Trainees also practiced in soil fertility test, how to make bio-fertilizer, bio-pesticide and Plant Propagation. There will be follow up process for participants who start their own farming, to keep record of farm work, to form farmer groups that hold meetings for sharing experience and solving any problems together, and moreover, to gain enough skills to become “Farming Expert” who can help other farmers, both at present as well as after repatriation, to set farmer group system for sustainable community.
